Welcome to Core Transit, Eagle County's exciting new public transportation organization! We're the vibrant, cool-looking buses you've seen around town, providing mostly free transportation services to our community from Dotsero to Vail.   

We are seeking a motivated Transit Scheduler / Planner  to manage the seasonal schedule development process, including planning, scheduling, and ensuring the accuracy of GTFS data. This position focuses on creating efficient, practical schedules that meet customer and bus operator needs, while coordinating with regional partners to improve service and transfers. The role also supports transportation planning, analysis, and outreach efforts, with an emphasis on optimizing the regional transit network and enhancing system efficiency.

Hiring Range:  

Scheduler / Planner I$59,052 - $70,862. The maximum pay for this position is $82,673 

Scheduler / Planner II: $64,957 - $77,949. The maximum pay for this position is $90,940

About the position: Transit Scheduler / Planner 

The Scheduler/Planner has primary responsibility for the seasonal schedule development process, including planning, scheduling, run-cutting, and ensuring accuracy of GTFS data. Prioritizes the creation of efficient, practical, and livable schedules that meet the needs of both customers and bus operators. Coordinates with regional partners to improve service and timing of system-to-system transfers. Assists with other transportation planning, implementation, analysis and outreach efforts, with a special focus on improving transit system efficiency, optimization of the regional network, and meeting community needs.    

Requirements

 Key Responsibilities:

  • Evaluate and optimize transit routes, schedules, and services, identifying inefficiencies and opportunities for improvements, such as service realignments and frequency adjustments.
  • Coordinate schedules with regional partners (e.g., Vail Transit, Bustang) and stay informed on parking/policy changes that may impact transit demand.
  • Manage scheduling and run-cutting.
  • Assist with route analysis and transportation planning, providing recommendations for service changes (both permanent and temporary).
  • Use GIS, transit modeling software, and other tools to build schedules, assess performance, and support decision-making.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders, government agencies, and community organizations to integrate transit planning into broader efforts.
  • Assist with land use reviews and grant research/writing as needed.
  • Monitor ridership data, assist with identifying inaccuracies, and prepare required reports (e.g., CDOT quarterly, NTD reports).
  • Stay current on trends in transportation planning and develop relationships with local/regional transit providers.

Additional Duties: Ensure safety, report unsafe conditions, and assist with other tasks as assigned. 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of transit operations, scheduling, and route development.

Transit Scheduler / Planner I: 

  • Minimum of 1-2 years in transit operations, scheduling, or a related field. 
  • Familiarity with scheduling software and a willingness to learn new tools. 

Transit Scheduler / Planner II: 

  • Minimum of 3-5 years in transit operations, transit scheduling and planning. 
  • Advanced proficiency in GIS, scheduling software, and data analysis tools.  

Special Requirements

  • Valid state drivers’ license and a satisfactory motor vehicle record. 

Preferred:

  • Minimum of two years of experience in transit planning, public transportation operations, or related field. 
  • Familiarity with Eagle County routes and community. 

Location & Commitments:

  • Typical working hours are Monday through Friday, 8 AM to 5 PM, with the possibility of remote work depending on business needs. 
  • Primary office located in Gypsum.
