If so, the Boulder County Community Planning & Permitting Department has an exciting opportunity for a Long-Range Transportation Planner to join our team!

As part of the Transportation Planning Division, you will have the opportunity to work on a wide range of planning activities implementing the County’s Transportation Master Plan, including multimodal corridor studies, bus rapid transit projects, bicycle and pedestrian planning, and Vision Zero safety initiatives.

In this role, you will apply your knowledge as well as learn on the job to contribute to the development of innovative and sustainable transportation solutions. You will support a team effort to help initiate and coordinate complex projects and related multimodal activities across several Boulder County departments working with external partners such as CDOT, RTD, and local municipalities.
 
This is a full-time, benefited position, that will work Monday – Friday with flexibility, with the potential for occasional evening and weekend hours to facilitate or support public meetings and/or attend outreach events. This hybrid position will work both remotely and in-person out of 2045 13th St., Boulder, Colorado. Under Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) guidelines, this position is exempt.
 
Boulder County requires its employees to reside in the state of Colorado as of the first day of work.
 
Hiring Salary Range: $60,756.00 - $74,136.00
 Annually

Examples of Duties

 

  1. Models and upholds Boulder County’s Guiding Values of Inclusion, Stewardship, Service, Engagement, Sustainability, Innovation and Resilience
  2. Develops and implements work plans to achieve the goals of the Boulder County Transportation Master Plan, including strategies for transportation, environmental sustainability, safety, economic vitality, equity, and character of place
  3. Supports community engagement efforts for transportation planning projects, including outreach to historically marginalized and hard-to-reach populations, to ensure that all voices are heard and considered in the planning process
  4. Contributes to complex multimodal transportation planning projects, such as regional corridor studies, transit feasibility studies, planning & environmental linkage studies, bicycle/pedestrian planning efforts, and ensuring compliance with Title VI regulations and Environmental Justice considerations
  5. Supports project development and implementation, including developing scopes of work, purchasing and procurement, establishing and tracking budgets, approving contractor payments, grant management, requests for reimbursement, monitoring work progress, and ensuring completion of high-quality work products
  6. As part of the planning team, represents the Transportation Planning Division and Boulder County in inter-agency planning and programmatic efforts, serving on technical committees and providing guidance and recommendations to policy makers, and communicating with the public and other stakeholders
  7. Supports public transit planning and development of transit services
  8. Collaborates with other departments and agencies to plan, design, and implement capital projects that enhance multimodal transportation and community livability
  9. Comments on the development review, including analyzing and evaluating site and architectural plans to ensure alignment with the Transportation Master Plan goals, and other adopted planning documents and regulations
  10. Examines various planning projects that may involve field studies, surveys, data analysis, and reporting
  11. Prepares maps, charts, reports and other documents for presentations, public outreach, and Boulder County website
  12. Plans for and participates in internal and public meetings, including off-site meetings and field visits
  13. Performs other duties as required to support Boulder County objectives
  14. May be reassigned in emergency situations.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
Boulder County is looking for well qualified candidates to fill our positions. Any combination of relevant education and experience is encouraged. In this position, we are looking for a minimum of either:

  • Bachelor's degree in planning or related field, such as but not limited to landscape architecture, civil engineering, geography, real estate development, or environmental policy or planning; AND one year of professional experience in urban, rural, regional, transportation, parks or community planning, or other related field.

OR

  • Bachelor’s degree, with a minimum of nine college credits in planning related coursework and three years of professional experience in urban, rural, regional, transportation, parks or community planning, or other related field.

Supplemental Information

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • Applicants do not need to own a personal vehicle (Boulder County has pool vehicles for off-site travel) but having a valid driver’s license and current automobile insurance is preferred.

  • Experience with qualitative and quantitative data collection and analysis.
  • Ability to learn and communicate departmental regulations, policies, and procedures.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, Teams) and other remote work software (e.g., Zoom).
  • Relevant experience that can be applied to the roles, responsibilities, or job description.
  • Knowledge of ArcGIS.
  • Knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite, including Illustrator, InDesign, and Photoshop.
