The Town of Basalt is accepting applications for a Planner II position. This opportunity is one of five positions within our Planning Department. This position is an important part of the Town’s planning and development services team and performs various professional and technical level planning work on challenging, complex, and/or sensitive planning projects in support of the Town’s Master Plan and administration of the Town’s zoning and subdivision regulations under the supervision of other positions in the planning department. The successful candidate possesses a team-oriented, collaborative, and organized working style, with excellent communication skills, the ability to maintain positive relationships, and responsiveness to the community.
Essential Functions
- Reviews and processes a variety of applications and permits including plats, building permits, site plans; issues special permits and notices within scope of authority; creates correspondence and reports, and coordinates with customers as needed under the direct supervision of the Planning Director or Assistant Planning Director.
- Answers inquiries and assists the public and developers in matters relating to planning, zoning and permit review, and other Town standards and regulations; provides information and recommendations within scope of authority.
- Inspects properties and structures under construction for compliance with codes and regulations; identifies, documents, and communicates deficiencies, and identifies corrective actions and coordinates services with other Departments.
- Develops recommendations and reports to summarize development issues; prepares reports on land use applications and planning activities; writes zoning violation letters and coordinates violation abatement actions.
- Provides Staff support such as website updates, meeting minutes and meeting packets to various Town Boards and Committees.
- Performs research analysis and prepares and develops reports, maps, special studies, and related documents as needed for various Town Boards and Committees such as: Planning and Zoning Commission, Green Team, Parks Open Space & Trails Commission, Basalt Affordable Community Housing Commission and/or Public Arts Commission.
- Create and revise maps used for planning purposes using GIS; and maintain and update GIS database
- Updates the Town Planning website; maintains and updates planning records/documentation as needed.
- Participate in Technical Review Committee meetings and process certificates and other documents as required.
- Supports the relationship between the Town of Basalt and the constituent population by demonstrating courteous and cooperative behavior when interacting with visitors and Town staff; maintains absolute confidentiality of work related issues, client records, and Town information; performs other duties as required or assigned.
