Under general supervision, this position aids business organizations, applicants, and the public while performing a variety of community development activities.

  • Reviews complex land development proposals in coordination with other Town departments and outside  agencies for compliance with Town codes, ordinances, Town master plans, and intergovernmental agreements; coordinates, recommends, reviews, and develops revisions to land-use codes and related ordinances. 
  • Prepares staff recommendations, technical reports, and presents to Town Council, the Planning Commission, task forces, and community groups for action on development proposals.
  • Reviews/analyzes complex land development applications; reviews recommendations to revise land use codes and related ordinances; reviews and issues building permits; analyzes and makes recommendations for land development requests; conducts inspections for certificates of occupancy.  
  • Performs on-site inspection of developments to ensure compliance with site plans, including landscape and architecture, and conditions for approval. 
  • Assists in the issuance of building permits and certificates of occupancy to ensure compliance with land development code requirements; reviews building permits and business licenses for zoning and land-use compliance. 
  • Provides planning related information to property owners, architects, developers, real estate brokers, appraisers, and the public; responds to citizen complaints, requests, and inquiries in an appropriate manner. 
  • Conducts land use, demographic, economic, and other research activities on a broad range of community and planning subjects. 
  • Assists with and may oversee the development and revisions to long range and comprehensive planning projects including master plans, transportation plans, sub-area plans, neighborhood plans, and trail/open space plans; seeks alternative funding opportunities when necessary. 
  • Works closely with task forces and community groups to gather input and develop consensus on planning projects and initiatives. 
  • Negotiates and administers professional service agreements with consultants. 
  • Attends professional development trainings to maintain skill and competence in the planning field; serves on or attends project, division, department, and Town-wide teams and meetings as required. 
  • Adheres to all Town and departmental values, policies, and procedures. 
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
