The City of Woodland Park is seeking a skilled and collaborative Senior Planner to join the City’s planning department team. This is a great opportunity for someone who is passionate about land use planning and who enjoys development review and long-range planning. The ideal candidate brings a solid understanding of planning and zoning principles and is eager to apply that knowledge in a collaborative, forward-thinking environment.

Essential Responsibilities - As part of the planning team, this position works with other city departments, consultants, agency partners, and the public. Primary functions include:

  • Providing technical information to applicants and members of the public on land use and zoning laws and regulations.
  • Reviewing development proposals for compliance with City regulations and master plans, and evaluating development solutions with applicants when necessary.
  • Processing land use applications, communicating with referral agencies and community members, developing packet materials for public hearings, and inspecting development projects for compliance with approved plans.
  • Preparing staff reports and maps; formulating department recommendations; and making presentations at public meetings.

Upcoming Projects - Upcoming planning projects include topic specific updates to the recently adopted Unified Development Code (e.g., landscaping standards, architectural design guidelines, parking standards, and possible ‘dark sky’ lighting standards) and we will soon begin a sub-area plan for the downtown area. The department also continues to implement a new permit tracking system.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Graduation with a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with a degree in land use planning, urban planning, architecture, or a closely related field.
  • Experience related to planning, zoning, land use regulations, public administration, or closely related field is beneficial.
  • Valid Colorado Driver license.
