Job Description

The purpose of this Intern position is to support the Transportation Planning Team through data entry, GIS mapping, database editing activities, accessibility implementation, and public outreach. The Transportation Planning Intern will be expected to work up to 29 hours per week during the term of the internship. Compensation to be at $19/ hr.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The key responsibilities and duties of the Intern position include, but are not limited to:

• GIS Projects
  • Creation, cleaning, and organization of transportation and land use shapefiles
    • Updating attribute and field names
    • Updating or creating metadata
  • Quality control review of shapefiles
  • Creation of standard maps using ArcGIS Pro and ArcGIS Online for use in MPO plans and projects;
  • Provide GIS data analysis assistance to Transportation Planners for use in the active transportation and freight plans, and other projects as necessary;
  • Remediation of ArcGIS Online files (including but not limited to shapefiles, StoryMaps, and mapping applications);
  • Creation of ArcGIS StoryMaps for MPO plans and programs.
• Accessibility Projects
  • Remediation of digital MPO documents to meet State of Colorado Accessibility guidelines;
  • Creation of conforming alternate versions of non-complying, publicly accessible documents, maps, and images;
• Other duties as assigned

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

• Ability to work independently and to set and complete workload priorities with supervisor input;
• Strong interpersonal skills which include collaboration and the ability to be part of a successful team;
• Working knowledge of scientific and research methods and ability to perform statistical/spatial analysis;
• Strong computer aptitude, with skills in Microsoft Office and database management; and
• Experience with Esri Products including ArcGIS Pro and ArcGIS Online, and TransCAD (desirable).
